Peanut butter and jam is a classic flavour match. Put a new spin on your classic porridge with this salty and sweet combo.

Recipe: Peanut butter and jam oats

Prep and cooking time: 12 mins

Serves: 1

Ingredients

  • 40g rolled oats
  • 250ml milk
  • 2 tsp chia seeds or milled flaxseed
  • 60g frozen berries
  • 60ml water
  • 1 tbsp peanut butter

Method

  1. Mix the rolled oats, milk, and 1 tsp of the chia seeds or milled flaxseed in a small saucepan, and bring to a boil.
  2. Reduce heat and simmer for 4-5mins, or until the desired consistency is achieved.
  3. Meanwhile, make the berry jam in another pot. Stir in the frozen berries and the remaining 1 tsp of chia seeds or milled flaxseed with the 60ml water. Simmer for 4-5mins, or until lightly stewed.
  4. Transfer the oats into a serving bowl and add a splash of milk if required, to get the desired consistency.
  5. Top the oats with the berry jam and 1 tbsp of peanut butter.

Hello,
I was thinking of signing up but wondered whether you publish calorie counts for these recipies in the app?

Hello Phillip,

We’ve removed the need to count complex carbohydrates or fruit servings and the carb-free meal rule, because the most up-to-date research shows that people are better able to maintain dietary change when it isn’t rigid (but rather, flexible) and that ‘counting’ part of your diet (calories, carbs, or fruit) is more likely to lead to negative relationships with food.

At Second Nature, we believe that simply ‘telling’ people what to eat isn’t supportive of long-term change. Otherwise, any ‘diet’ would work. We want to empower members with the skills and knowledge to make choices for themselves and their lifestyles.

While we understand that you might want or need more support with portions and guidelines to start with, we know that in the long run, understanding nutrition and learning to trust your own judgement rather than following rules will be more likely to lead to long-term change.
