According to data from randomised controlled trials, Mounjaro supports weight loss of around 4% of body weight after one month. After two months, it’s around 6% of body weight.
However, as this is an average rate of weight loss, it’s unclear how much weight loss an individual will lose in a month on Mounjaro. Some people may lose weight quickly, while others may take longer.
Tirzepatide (the active ingredient in Mounjaro) reduces appetite and hunger, helping you eat fewer calories; this effect is almost immediate.
However, you might notice the effect of lower hunger wearing off after 4-5 days post-injection in the first month of taking Mounjaro.
It can take 4-5 weeks for Mounjaro to reach a level in the body we call a steady state. A steady state is when the drug’s levels in the body remain consistent rather than spiking and falling.
Interestingly, this initial weight loss is no different to other weight loss treatments or the impact of diet interventions on weight loss. The real effect of tirzepatide is seen beyond three months.
Tirzepatide is a long-acting medication that’s started at a lower dose to reduce the number and severity of side effects as it builds up to a higher maintenance dose.
Mounjaro has now been approved for weight loss in the UK, and Second Nature launched its Mounjaro weight-loss programme programme in February 2024.
How do you maximise weight loss on Mounjaro?
To maximise weight loss on Mounjaro, you must build healthy habits like eating a healthy diet, sleeping well, and moving more.
Mounjaro, and other weight-loss injections like Wegovy, are most effective when combined with developing healthy habits.
Research suggests when people come off of GLP-1 medications after being on a habit-change programme, they’re more likely to keep the weight off in the long run.
Second Nature’s Mounjaro weight-loss programme has been developed by nutritionists, psychologists, and dietitians to help you build healthy habits to lose weight and lead a life of independence without needing medication or physical aids.
How much weight will I lose on Mounjaro?
Research suggests that Mounjaro supports average weight loss of around 25% after one year. If you weighed 100kg, this would be a weight loss of 25kg.
However, as this is an average, it’s unclear how much weight each individual will be able to lose on Mounjaro.
The amount of weight people lose on Mounjaro will depend on how well they respond to the medication and their ability to make positive changes to their diet and lifestyle.
Do you lose more weight on the higher doses of Mounjaro?
Research suggests that higher doses of Mounjaro support more weight loss. One study compared the effects of Mounjaro 5 mg, 10 mg, and 15 mg on weight loss.
The results showed that Mounjaro 5 mg led to an average weight loss of 7.6kg after 40 weeks, 10 mg 9.3 kg, and 15 mg 11.2kg.
These results suggest a linear relationship between the doses of Mounjaro and weight loss. So, the higher the dose, the greater the weight loss.
However, as we’ve discussed already, everyone responds differently to medication and how much weight you lose will depend on how well you respond to the medication and the changes you’re able to make to your lifestyle.
For example, some people may lose more weight on the lower doses of Mounjaro as they’re more sensitive to the drug’s effects and don’t need to increase the dosage.
Mounjaro isn’t a magic pill
Weight-loss injections are most effective when combined with a healthier lifestyle. They can help kickstart weight loss while you commit to developing healthier habits.
Mounjaro and other weight loss injections, like Ozempic and Wegovy, can allow you to make lifestyle changes to support long-term weight loss.
These medications can help silence food-related thoughts and give you a boost of confidence with more immediate weight-loss results.
They can also buy you the time and headspace to understand why your body may have struggled to lose weight and build new long-term healthy habits.
The core focus of our medication programmes is to calm down the feeling of food noise, lower your cravings, and allow you to build healthier habits to keep the weight off for good.
The ultimate goal is to make losing weight feel second nature.
Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes
Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.
If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?
For peace of mind.
