Whether you choose Boots or Second Nature to help you lose weight with Wegovy or Mounjaro will depend on the level of support you feel you need to keep the weight off for good.
You might also consider whether Boots or Second Nature can provide a guarantee on your future treatment and security over medication supply.
As of June 2024, Boots has stopped providing weight-loss injection services due to limited availability. This might change in the future, but you won’t be able to purchase Mounjaro or Wegovy from Boots Online Doctor at the moment.
Whereas Second Nature has good availability of Wegovy and Mounjaro and our programmes come with the following benefits:
- Peace of mind that Second Nature has been used by the NHS since 2017 to provide weight-loss services, building up a base of clinical trust
- Access to a registered nutritionist or dietitian five days a week
- Science-backed articles to help you develop healthy habits and keep the weight off in the long term
While our Wegovy weight-loss programme and Mounjaro weight-loss programme are private programmes and aren’t yet used by the NHS, we’ve applied the same high standards to develop and run the programme.
Should I buy Wegovy or Mounjaro online?
Wegovy and Mounjaro are designed as additional tools for weight management and shouldn’t be considered lifelong medications.
Instead, it should be used to help you kickstart your weight loss and healthy journey while you commit to living a healthier lifestyle.
Ideally, we’d be able to lose weight without medication and lifestyle changes would be enough to support weight loss in the long term.
We’d generally recommend trying Second Nature’s weight-loss programme before considering a weight-loss jab.
Changing your habits is the most sustainable way to achieve long-term weight loss, and it’s also less expensive (£40 a month vs. ~£299 a month).
At Second Nature, we’ve been trusted by the NHS since 2017 to support people with type 2 diabetes and obesity to lose weight, manage their blood sugar levels, and lead healthier lifestyles for the long term.
In 2022, the NHS published data in the British Medical Journal that compared the weight loss outcomes of five providers in the National Diabetes Prevention Programme.
Second Nature was more than twice as effective at supporting weight loss than the other four providers.
However, if you’ve decided to try Wegovy or Mounjaro but need support in making positive changes to your lifestyle, Second Nature could be an option for you. But it’s worth noting that we have strict eligibility criteria.
Otherwise, keep reading as we look at three critical differences between Second Nature’s medication-supported programme and Boots.
1) Weight regain with Wegovy, and Mounjaro is likely without the proper support
Like traditional diets, where participants typically regain weight once the diet ends, weight regain is significant following the cessation of semaglutide.
The greater the initial weight loss, the more significant the weight regained.
However, those who lose more weight initially maintain more significant weight loss compared to baseline than those who lose less before the medication is withdrawn.
In this post-analysis of 327 participants, the average weight loss after 68 weeks was 17.3% with semaglutide and 2% with placebo.
After 52 weeks of follow-up, after the medication was withdrawn, the average weight loss was 5.6% with semaglutide and 0.1% with placebo.
A weight regain of 11.6% in the semaglutide group and 1.9% in the placebo.
Weight regain isn’t inevitable. Long-term sustainable weight loss can be achieved, but you need the proper support.
Unfortunately, if you feel you need more support to help you maintain weight loss in the long run, you might not get this on the Boots programme as you don’t have access to a peer support group or a registered nutritionist.
It’s possible that when you come off of the medication, you’ll regain much of the weight lost without making significant changes to your habits and lifestyle.
But higher levels of support are something that Second Nature can offer, and the fact we’ve been trusted by the NHS since 2017 to provide weight-loss services showcases the long-term impact Second Nature has had on our members.
2) Second Nature is used by the NHS and NICE-approved
Second Nature has been used by the NHS since 2017. We’ve delivered programmes for the NHS in type 2 diabetes management, diabetes prevention, and weight management.
The National Institute of Health and Care Excellence (NICE) recently announced that Wegovy would be available via digital weight management services provided by Second Nature and three other companies supporting the NHS.
This approval recognises the high level of patient care and support that Second Nature has provided our members.
Additionally, we have over 6 years of clinical data showcasing our programme’s positive impact on weight loss and type 2 diabetes management.
Whilst our Wegovy programme is a private programme and isn’t yet used by the NHS, we’ve applied the same high standards of data security and patient safety. The programme is science-backed and has been developed by dietitians, nutritionists, and psychologists.
Boots’ new programme is evidence-based and developed by registered healthcare professionals with a style and tone similar to Second Nature’s programme.
However, it hasn’t been clinically tested or used in the NHS, and its impact on long-term weight loss is unclear.
3) Wegovy and Mounjaro cost and Trustpilot reviews
- The total monthly cost of the Second Nature programme, including Wegovy or Mounjaro medication, is £229, rising to £299
- The total monthly cost of Wegovy from Boots is £199, rising to £299 (currently unavailable)
- The total monthly cost of Mounjaro from Boots is £219, rising to £249 (currently unavailable)
- Second Nature’s current Trustpilot score based on 6,270 reviews is 4.8, and are rated as ‘Excellent’
- Boots has no verified Trustpilot account

Weight-loss injections are designed as additional tools for weight management interventions and shouldn’t be considered lifelong medications.
Instead, they should be used to help you kickstart your weight loss and healthy journey while you commit to living a healthier lifestyle.
Consider the use of antidepressants for people living with depression. They’re not designed to cure the condition. Instead, they’re designed to allow room for therapy to treat the condition’s underlying cause.
Mounjaro, and other weight loss injections, like Ozempic and Wegovy, are similar. They can allow you to make lifestyle changes to support long-term weight loss maintenance.
Mounjaro can help silence food-related thoughts and also give you a boost of confidence with more immediate weight-loss results.
This helps to buy you the time and headspace to understand why your body may have struggled to lose weight previously, and to build new long-term healthy habits.
The core focus of our medication programmes is to calm down the feeling of food noise, lower your cravings, and allow you to build healthier habits to keep the weight off for good.
The ultimate goal is to make losing weight feel second nature.
Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes
Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.
If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?
For peace of mind.
Second Nature has worked with the NHS for over 6 years providing weight-loss programmes across the UK.
Whilst our Wegovy and Mounjaro weight-loss programmes are private and not currently used by the NHS, we’ve built the programmes with a focus on scientific evidence, patient safety, and data security.
We hope that our 6+ years of working with the NHS and building a track record of effective weight-loss results will give you peace of mind to give us a try.
