You can only be prescribed Ozempic on the NHS in certain circumstances, most notably if you’re living with type 2 diabetes that’s poorly controlled. Ozempic is no longer available for weight loss in the UK.

Ozempic isn’t available privately in the UK, but if you meet the eligibility criteria, you may be able to purchase a private prescription of Wegovy, which contains the same drug as Ozempic (semaglutide).

Wegovy has been approved for treating obesity in the UK and is available to purchase privately as part of Second Nature’s Wegovy weight-loss programme.

In February 2024, the new weight-loss drug Mounjaro was launched, and it is available to buy as part of Second Nature’s Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

How do you qualify for an Ozempic prescription?

To get an Ozempic prescription on the NHS in the UK, here are some of the criteria you need to meet:

  • Have poorly controlled type 2 diabetes
  • Treatment with metformin is considered inappropriate
  • Have a BMI of 30 or over
  • Have no diagnosis or family history of thyroid cancer
  • Have no diagnosis or family history of pancreatic cancer or pancreatitis

Can I get Ozempic for weight loss on the NHS?

You can’t get Ozempic for weight loss on the NHS; it’s only approved for individuals living with type 2 diabetes to help manage their blood sugar levels.

Under new regulations, the use of Ozempic for weight loss alone is no longer allowed in the UK. In 2023, supplies of Ozempic were under severe strain due to the unprecedented demand for the medication.

The shortage of Ozempic supply meant that many people living with type 2 diabetes were unable to get an Ozempic prescription.

The UK Government released new regulations advising doctors to no longer prescribe Ozempic for weight loss and reserve it for people living with type 2 diabetes.

Is it safe to order prescriptions online?

All online prescribers have to follow strict regulations in the UK and other countries to provide medications for delivery.

All pharmacies must be registered with their national bodies and follow guidelines on safe and appropriate prescriptions for medication.

However, illegal websites do operate beyond these regulations; here are some tips to ensure you’re buying prescription medicines from reliable sources:

  • If you’re purchasing your medication through a prescriber’s partner, like Second Nature, make sure the prescribing pharmacy information is provided
  • Be wary of online pharmacies that offer prescription drugs without a prescription or at a significantly lower price than other pharmacies
  • Check if the online pharmacy is licensed and located in the United Kingdom
  • Make sure that the online pharmacy has a licensed pharmacist available to answer your questions

Weight-loss injections aren’t a magic pill

Weight-loss injections are most effective when combined with a healthier lifestyle. They can help kickstart weight loss while you commit to developing healthier habits.

Mounjaro and other weight loss injections, like Ozempic and Wegovy, can allow you to make lifestyle changes to support long-term weight loss.

These medications can help silence food-related thoughts and give you a boost of confidence with more immediate weight-loss results.

They can also buy you the time and headspace to understand why your body may have struggled to lose weight and build new long-term healthy habits.

The core focus of our medication programmes is to calm down the feeling of food noise, lower your cravings, and allow you to build healthier habits to keep the weight off for good.

The ultimate goal is to make losing weight feel second nature.

Second Nature’s medication-supported programmes

Second Nature has two medication-supported programmes: a Wegovy weight-loss programme and a Mounjaro weight-loss programme.

If you’ve made the decision to try Wegovy or Mounjaro (assuming you’re eligible), why should you choose Second Nature over other medication providers?

For peace of mind.

Second Nature has worked with the NHS for over 6 years providing weight-loss programmes across the UK.

Whilst our Wegovy and Mounjaro weight-loss programmes are private and not currently used by the NHS, we’ve built the programmes with a focus on scientific evidence, patient safety, and data security.

We hope that our 6+ years of working with the NHS and building a track record of effective weight-loss results will give you peace of mind to give us a try.
