We’re delighted to have been featured in BQ Live, the online magazine celebrating entrepreneurship in the tech sector, this week. It’s great to get public recognition, and being involved in BQ’s business-focused magazine is especially encouraging for us as a small startup.

The article focuses on our co-founders, Chris Edson and Mike Gibbs, and why they decided to set up OurPath and tackle the type 2 diabetes epidemic. Chris and Mike witnessed the impact of type-2 diabetes on the NHS first-hand when they worked as strategy consultants at Monitor Deloitte. Diabetes costs the NHS over £9bn a year, putting our healthcare system under unsustainable financial strain – even though the condition can be prevented in most cases by changing people’s lifestyles. This prompted Mike and Chris to put their heads together and look for a solution.

Starting with the vision of tackling the type 2 diabetes epidemic, we’ve managed to raise £500,000 to kick-start our company’s growth and the rollout of our programme across the UK. Hopefully media attention like this feature will help us raise awareness, both on the public healthcare front, and as a consumer brand. We want people to know that they can change their lifestyles for the long-term with the help of technology, and thus reduce their risk of developing type 2 diabetes.
